This is also mentioned in the notes at the gettext functions main page, but it is too important:
_Always_ use double quotes inside gettext() / _(). A single quote will not be parsed by the gettext
tools, xgettext, msgmerge et al, so the string will not be localized in the end. Newlines that are
normally acceptable inside strings in PHP will also produce an error when using these utilities.
So: _("string").
