I had MANY HOURS of problems with the:
fr != fr_FR
On a netbsd system, specifying any locale works fine, there's no need for a corresponding
locale in /usr/share/locale
However on 2 linux systems there needed either an alias or an entry in /usr/lib/locale
What to do when you're using a language with no locale entry?
Is this a shortcoming of the way gettext works on these linux systems?
Ie. setlocale ( LC_ALL, "km", "km_KM" ); won't work on the linux systems
are there are no entries for Khmer. I needed to copy the english locale to the khmer entry manually,
or add an alias. How are you expected to do this on a shared server or where you don't have
access to this sort of manipulation?
As someone posted above or in the gettext() section, you just lost portability.
