If you send a larger batch before clossing the connection it might happen that the last few messages weren't send. Add a usleep(microseconds) AFTER the QUIT command and BEFORE the fclose() command. This gives the server some time to send all the messages. I tried it with 0.5 and 0.1 seconds, it seemed enough on a 55kb email. 0.01 seconds seems to be too short.
