If you're doing a WAMP 1.4.4 install (Apache 1.*, MySql 4.*, PHP 4.*), check out this article http://www.circaware.com/articles.php?id=2 It's geared towards putting it on a USB stick, but the way it shows to configure it doesn't require any NT services, reg settings, Windows / System folder manipulation, etc. It's also designed to allow you to use the same code in a LAMP installation as well, in case you switch between OS's somewhat often (Windows at work, Linux at home).
