In response to baptista42.
Say you are using PHP in a web server, and a client is uploading to your site. It's not right
for a web server to know details about the client's directory structure - that is the
client's private business.
If the upload succeeds, you just need to use: move_uploaded_file()
You don't need to know what directory it used to be in, or even what directory it is uploaded
to (which is temporary). Just use move_uploded_file()
