is_dir is particularly useful if you want to generate HTML content based on a query whether any
property within dir() is is_dir.
For example, I combine it with displaying a little directory image (a png file with transparency)
if( is_dir($val) ) // where $val is a member of an array which is being queried now
{ IMGn("DIR.png","","DirectoryImage");
// where IMGn is a short function, which echos an <img> tag with some additional things like
an alt tag or maybe some style and class rules.
Those icons are VERY helpful if you ask me.
