PHP5 has no longer mysql support included. So after upgrading to PHP5 (on Windows XP) I got an error
message saying
"Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in
C:\apache\htdocs\phpmyadmin\lib.inc.php on line 255"
To make mysql work, you have to add the following lines to your php.ini file (or uncomment them if
they are already there):
extension=php_mysql.dll
extension=php_mysqli.dll
Then, copy these dll's and the following two ones into windows system32 directory:
libmysql.dll
libmysqli.dll
restart apache... and it should work. I found this hint here, where also the unix version is
