The following code with assign $output the value of $input where text found between the <code
/> tags has been replaced with the syntax-highlighted version thereof.
$output = preg_replace("/<code>(.*?)<\/code>/ies",
"highlight_string(stripslashes('\\1'), TRUE)", $input);
