----
attention Debian GNU/Linux 'testing' and 'unstable' users:
it might save you some time to know that PHP's command-line functionality is enabled most
easily by installing a package called "php4-cli".
as root, simply enter "apt-get install php4-cli" at the command line, and the job is done.
you can test your installation right away by issuing "php -v" at the prompt, which should
give you something like ..
PHP 4.3.10-2 (cli) (built: Dec 19 2004 03:41:45)

Zend Engine v1.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2004 Zend Technologies
NOTE: as of right now (jan 2005), the above instructions apply solely to the 'testing'
(a.k.a. sarge) and 'unstable' distributions.
