J2EE and MS ASP.NET are both expensive solutions in long run. If your audience is the web, and if you dont have more than 4-6 zeros in funding (which means strict resources), I'd suggest the php-mysql route first. I've seen far too many people with really good ideas fail because they choose the route of having the long development time using high end "stuff", while they knew they had limited resources. Why choose a big hammer when your arms cannot support it. By the time they release something, the phenomenom has passed................ Welcome to the Internet.. where everything moves quickly.
