After grumbling for 4 years with ASP (and MS SQL) I switched over to PHP (and MySQL). Everything
became easier, no more cryptic connection strings.
1st reason is that PHP enabled webspace with SQL databases is much cheaper, especially when you need
a dedicated server
2nd reason: as a C programmer I needed at least 2 weeks to get familar with PHP after programming
ASP solutions for 4 years, and was able to build complex SQL driven projects like a dating site from
scratch (and with the help of Dreamweaver2004 MX from Macromedia). With ASP the learning process
took much longer :-(
3rd reason: PHP/MySQL is really platform independent. The most stable environment may be BSD or
Linux (I leave that discussion to others) and will even run on the iPod.
So if you want to build web apps, especially with databases do it with PHP.
