Note that the results of REMOTE_ADDR can be vary depending on the browser!
My development machine, is a Mac OS 10.2.8 client machine networked to a small LAN. Thus my IP
address is the dynamically assigned: 10.0.1.2 while "localhost" is 127.0.0.1.
Test script:
<?php
echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
?>
Output using Firefox 1.0.6, Netscape 7.2, Safari 1.0.3:
127.0.0.1
Output using Internet Explorer 5.2.2:
10.0.1.2
Why is PHP browser-specific for server-related variables? I don't know.
