ODBC is a total pain in the ass in this regard, because you need to
know what server you're talking to and what its capabilities are. I
started writing another "sublayer" for DB_odbc (basically a superclass
for each server, such as DB_odbc_solid etc.), but got frustrated and
wiped it out. :-) We probably need something like that though.
