This is an extension that provides a similar benefit to the ZendOptimizer. It takes the op_array from zend_compile, runs through the tree, and makes optimizations. Peeophole optimization means that it works 'locally', by optimizing adjacent opcodes that can be reduced into more efficient instructions.
It makes code run faster. :)

I'd like to import an 'optimizer' zend_extension that does peephole optimizations on code. It will be PHP Group licensed.sorry for my ignorance or misunderstanding, but what is a peephole ? and, how can you optimize it ? pa
