The movement towards a new license actually came from the users who wanted to use this great package in commercial applications (and if you consider where charting components are most widely used, that´s only natural, IMHO). The former license (GPL) prevented them from doing that without releasing the source of their whole application to the public. The fact that the author did not only change the license, but also charges for the package now if you use it commercially, also came from user demands. And even if it didn´t, I think it´s the right of any author to make that decision for himself (it would get a little more complicated if other authors contributed a lot to the package, but that´s not the case with jpGraph). I don´t think PEAR should close the door on commercial packages. Being able to use them all freely for testing, implementation and non-commercial projects would be nice, though (which also is the case with jpGraph). Just my 0.02 Euro.
