It's probably worth planning this as a replacement for HTML_Template_Flexy = which technically would not need lots of votes :)... -- asuming we can make the API reasonably compatible (even via a wrapper) to the original.. Regards Alan Wolfram Kriesing wrote:
after getting Alan's opinion i am courageous enough to ask here :-) do you think it makes sense to propose SimpleTemplate to be a PEAR-package? i would try to merge Flexy-features into it and propose it under a new name to pear (btw. HTML_Template_Flexy was branched away from SimpleTemplate by Alan). Since it perfectly works together with PEAR::I18N i am planning to make a demo of how to make multilingual sites easy to create. i am also planning on putting up a L10N-package/class (may be inside I18N ... to be discussed) so there will be a complete set of an internationalized solution for creating applications. Alan proposed: <alan> HTML_Template_Simple, probably, although it doesnt do justice to it :).. HTML_Template_SmartyLite, may be a better one... (and gives a sense of it's heratige..) - we can also phase out Flexy... </alan> i dont know if HTML is the right root-category, since the template engine can be used with any kind of text-file what do you think? some info can be found here http://opensource.visionp.de/modules/project/simpletpl.php very short summary of the feature list, just to know what it does - compiling templates (like Smarty) - can cache them, with dependencies, etc. - with PEAR::I18N even translating is easy - each template is configurable, via XML-chunks and/or files - very configurable etc.
