Of course I could add some wrappers to Net_Socket too if sockets aren't installed. Some setBlock operations on the sockets don't work yet, because one is made for new sockets and the other one is made for socket resources created by fsockopen. I'll have to fix this. But before that it would be nice to have some opinions about the things I put into Sockets.tgz so I can debug it before it will maybe a part of PEAR.Hi, I changed some error handling behaviour of the Socket_Base and Socket_List classes. Well, I think this Socket stuff is now ready to be used ? What do you think? It's very small so I attached it to this message. You might want to take a look at the new stream stuff as well, especially the new undocumented stream_select() so you can have several backends if the socket extension is not installed.
Some stuff will break without the socket extension though but it would be nice to have something to fall back on. Cooincidentally I discussed this and related issues with the new Net_IRC author on IRC earlier today. And we talked specifically about how it would be nice to have a good socket class which dealt with abstracting this sort of thing. A good test of the usability might be to try to port Net_IRC, Yapircl or something similar to it. gtk-- I won't pay Bills'
