The problem is that phpDocumentor is also bundled separately from PEAR, and
until PEAR becomes non-beta for all OSes, this means most people will get
phpDocumentor outside of PEAR. phpDocumentor has to set the include_path or
none of its fanciness with converters will work on every system with both
the web interface and the commandline.
In other words, on most systems the base include dir will not be
'PhpDocumentor', it will be 'phpDocumentor-x.x.x'
What would actually be ideal is if PEAR could install a symlink in usr/local
but that won't work for windows, so we are back where we started from :(.
One non-pleasant possibility is to grab the include_path and attempt to
prepend each possibility until we find the rest of phpDocumentor, which is
not hard to code, but I'd love a more elegant solution.
a Quick look at php.net suggests that either readfile() or include()
checking for return value might be a way to go, I'll have to investigate
when I get more time.
