installing packages to DESTDIR

I'm trying to make RPM packages of some of the PEAR modules but am
running into a brick wall because I can't find a way to specify a
DESTDIR/INSTALL_ROOT with /usr/bin/pear. Is there something I am
missing or does pear not allow this right now?
