OK, I've been doing a little more work on PEAR_Info.
Firstly, instead of grabbing the PEAR logo from pear.php.net everytime someone loads up a PEAR_Info page, it now has the image base64_encode'ed in to the class, and if $_GET['pear_image'] == 'true' it calls PEAR_Info::pearImage(); so now I have: <img src="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>?pear_image=true" />.
Here is PEAR_Info::pearImage():
function pearImage() {
$pear_image = 'R0lGODlhaAAyAMT/AMDAwP3+/TWaAvD47Pj89vz++zebBDmcBj6fDEekFluvKmu3PvX68ujz4XvBS8LgrNXqxeHw1ZnPaa/dgvv9+cLqj8LmltD2msnuls';
$pear_image .= '3xmszwmf7+/f///wAAAAAAAAAAACH5BAEAAAAALAAAAABoADIAQAX/ICCOZGmeaKqubOtWWjwJphLLgH1XUu//C1Jisfj9YLEKQnSY3GaixWQqQTkYHM4';
$pear_image .= 'AMulNLJFC9pEwIW/odKU8cqTfsWoTTtcomU4ZjbR4ZP+AgYKCG0EiZ1AuiossEhwEXRMEg5SVWQ6MmZqKWD0QlqCUEHubpaYlExwRPRZioZZVp7KzKQoS';
$pear_image .= 'DxANDLsNXA5simd2FcQYb4YAc2jEU80TmAAIztPCMcjKdg4OEsZJmwIWWQPQI4ikIwtoVQnddgrv8PFlCWgYCwkI+fp5dkvJ/IlUKMCy6tYrDhNIIKLFE';

$pear_image .= 'ypcADPkz3pvKVAICHChkC7siQ08zVqu4Q6hgIFEFZuEn/KMgRUkaBmAQs+cEHgIiHVH5EAFpIgW4+NT6LnaqhDwe/Ov7YOmWZp4MkiAWBIl0kAVsJWuzc';

$pear_image .= 'vzs9CIKECC1JBp7enUpfXHApwVYNAfo16c4IrYPLVdSAJVob7IAtCBFQGHcs/RRdiUDPHA33oADEAIAOw==';
header('content-type: image/gif');
echo base64_decode($pear_image);
}
Now, I'm also trying to implement error checking on the package list call, PEAR_Info now 'extends PEAR_Command_Common' and is using the *same* code pear list-all uses:
if (PEAR::isError($available)) {
return $this->raiseError($available);
}
if (!is_array($available)) {
return $this->raiseError('The package list could not be fetched from the remote server. Please try again. (Debug info: "'.$available.'")');
}
However, when used in a situation where it *should* fail (and it does from the command line) I end up with a situation where the browser is just left dangling for output... its been loading the entite time I've been writing this and about 5 minutes on top. I expected at least the 30 second time limit to kick in, I assume thats been changed to 0 somewhere along the line.
Any help on this, and comments on the above pearImage() stuff is welcome. BTW, I had thought of packaging the actual image file in the package but that would mean going through a similar process of displaying the image as it'd mostly likely not be in the document root.
