Checking out the xml files in the pear, pearweb and php4/pear i found out that some of these files aren't well-formed or they are not valid.
- Can the DTDs be placed in a central and definitive directory? That dir could contain both the DTDs created by the PEAR team and the ones from extern, like DocBook for example.
- Can we adopt XML files for documenting all the packages? It would be easier to generate different formats for the documentation (html pages, READMEs, etc.) and to create a standard DTD for coherent documents structures.
- Can be set some guidelines for checking well-formedness and validity? I personally use Xerces-j from xml.apache.org to check both.
Well-formedness: "java sax.SAXCount package.xml"
Validity: "java sax.SAXCount -v package.xml"
It would be nice to include a section into the PEAR Faq dedicated to xml files production. What do u think?
