Hmm... GetElementById really should be implemented by all browsers
supporting XHTML.
I know IE 5.0+ and NS 6.0+ support it (and they also support
GetElementByName). Of course, that means that Netscape 4 doesn't. However,
strict XHTML requires both "id" and "name" (and not simply name), because
XML uses the id tag instead of name. And they must both be set to the same
value. It seems that name will be allowed in form elements until XHTML 2.0,
which will introduce XForms (according to the current working draft).

Well, I never got a response on that. I'm going to try to add some features
(such as a definition file) before I propose it again. I'll be coming back
with it sometime in the next few weeks. Of course, any +1s would already be
appreciated :-) And if I get enough, I might release a version right away.
You can see the source and with some examples in phpdoc here:
http://www.geist.uni-freiburg.de/pear/CSS.phps
http://www.geist.uni-freiburg.de/pear/CSS.txt
http://www.geist.uni-freiburg.de/pear/HTML_CSS-0.1.0.tgz
A good example can be seen here:
http://www.geist.uni-freiburg.de/pear/CSS/example.phps
If you want to validate the progress bar output, you can get a prerelease
HTML_Page package here:
http://www.geist.uni-freiburg.de/pear/HTML_Page-2.0.0beta1.tgz
It requires HTML_Common version 1.2 or later. Extensive examples are
included in phpdoc. Example files will be included in the official release.
I'm going to attempt to add support for putting javascript in the head.
Right now you need to either have the javascript in the body or include it
as a separate file. I'll upload this file this file at 4 CET (can't do it
before then).
Anyway, hth
