New Comment:
This is the release version (0.4) -- I haven't tested with the CVS
version on this, it is running on a production system. If you have
fixed lots of issues such as this, perhaps it would be time to make a
new release (0.5)?
(P.S. Yes, it was "dependent on engineer skills" you know. ;-)

is this the cvs version or the release version - I though I had that
one nailed :)
Regards
Alan
P.S. I like the estimated time.. :) - probably take me a few days :)

bcompiler makes the (wrong) assumption that if PHP_HAS_STREAMS is set,
bzip support is enabled. This is not always the case, and what is even
worse, if PHP has been compiled without bzip2 support, bcompiler gives
a segmentation fault when bcompiled_load() is being run.
Solution:
Check if bzip2 support is available (somehow, if it can be done in an
easy way). If not, fallback to standard fopen() instead of bzopen().
Severity: grave, since it makes the package unusable if --with-bzip2
has not been specified, even though the package would work properly
without bzip2 support.
Estimated time to fix: 5 minutes-1 hour, dependent on engineer skills.
