great idea to bundle UML with the packages.
i also think that we should look for a tool, which will be able to do round-trip-engineering. otherwise we will be stuck one day. As far as I know XMI is the standard format for saving UML diagrams, so in the first go i would say every tool that uses XMI is the right one. If there is already one that does round-trip-engineering even better. Then we would also not depend on the tool anymore, but just on the file format, which would be great i think.
But i read (never tried it) that XMI is used by many tools, but the compatiblity of the outcome is not the same in every tool, which i dont really understand if it is a standard ... but anyway, that's what i read.
btw. i am using Umbrello, but actually just to draw the class diagrams. But i know round trip engineering is in the plan for it.
