Hi...

No, it's not an add-on for PHPUnit. It might at some point use parts of the PHPUnit Framework to prevent code duplication. If there was a separate test tool category it would sit in the same category. The origin is as a component of the simpletest framework which includes it's own unit tester amongst other things.
PHPUnit_MockObjects will be a Mock Objects implementation as an add-on for PHPUnit.Which has only just started and I know you want to go it alone on this one. Well at least I have succeeded in raising the profile of mock objects, which was the original intention of writing the tutorials (http://www.lastcraft.com/) and tools to go with them.
Personally, I'm +0 for adding Testing_SimpleMock.That effectively kills the port straight away as I have no wish to push uphill at cross purposes with the maintainer of a probably conflicting component. The only advantages of SimpleMock are that it is available for PHP4, available right now and easy to use. As the first two are temporary advantages, what remains doesn't really justify a PEAR version separate from the sourceforge version. Also it would confuse things within PEAR, damaging the cause (better testing = better PHP code). The mocks can already be used with the PEAR unit tester as is for people who need it right now. I was not expecting to get enough votes anyhow, as the number of people using mocks in Java/Python/Ruby and also writing PHP code is probably very low! Until you use them it is difficult to explain what an incredible time saver they are. yours, Marcus. -- Marcus Baker, marcus@lastcraft.com, nokia@appo.demon.co.uk
