Hi,
A few months ago, I proposed a patch that would make PEAR compatible with installation to paths with spaces in them, and it was rejected because PEAR doesn't support paths with spaces in them. Fair enough, but I just finished helping someone install PEAR on windows XP who was trying to install to C:\Program Files\php, and was getting the totally irrelevant error message "failed to write C:\Program Files\PHP\pear\data\PEAR\.tmppackage.dtd" The installation worked when he tried installing to C:\php instead.
Can someone fix the PEAR installer to check for spaces in the paths and die gracefully with a "PEAR doesn't support spaces in the pathname", or add support for spaces in a pathname? I have a feeling that a large number of windows users are abandoning the idea of using pear for this reason.
Regards,
Greg
