Time ago I coded a real dependecy database for the installer (at php-src/pear/PEAR/DependencyDB.php), which was intented to suppport that. The code now only builds the database butAs an idea: if SQLLite will be bundled with PHP5 really, we could drop your custom registry and dependencyDB stuff and switch to SQLLite for this purposes. So we can use simple SQL for checking and storing, which would makes its easier to do installer programming and reduces the size of the installer.
