After much playing with it yesterday, my take is it mostly lacks
documentation. See below.

so there was one call to Horde::functionCheck(), and it either took
0.02/0.01 sec real/system, or 0.0000 sec, depending on which column
you look at?

that's actually explained in the README, and I'm completely fine
with this behavior.

what is the value of "*" in "zend_extension_*"?
