I ommited that because that is not the relevant part. That means just that the service software has not been updated due to the lack of people working on it, which does not mean that it is not working to the point of being useless. You omitted the preceeding sentence which states: "NetGeo has not been actively maintained for _several years_, and this will probably not change in the the foreseeable future" (italics theirs). That's what I based my statement on.CAIDA is now publicly saying don't trust our database anymore because it's old so I may consider plugging in the IP to Country stuff that php.net uses as well. That is not exactly what they are saying. They say: Please be warned that NetGeo may give wildly incorrect results, especially for recently allocated or re-assigned IP addresses. This means that they do not guarantee that the database is synchronized without delay. AFAIK, this is a problem with all IP location resolution services because there are always delays in updating IP range databases.
I'll admit that it's difficult to determine from that whether updates go in delayed or not at all but my interpretation is for the latter.I can assure you that by experience that means that IP ranges are updated just with eventual delays. As I said, that is a problem with all IP country resolution services that I know. Since this is a remote service, you do not have to maintain the IP database yourself like with other local services. This means that updates may eventually come faster than with locally maintained IP databases that often are only updated once a month. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos Free ready to use OOP components written in PHP http://www.phpclasses.org/
