It's a nice option in some specific cases where the clients have
lowbandwidth, or you preffer to invest a little more in hardware than
in bandwidth.
The only need for reading the file into memory is the crc32 part. I
see a comment in the manual func page (http://es2.php.net/crc32), a guy who
coded a crc32 func in php. Modifying it is easy to stream the
compressed file.
