The system in question is a production system. The problem came to my attention after upgrading to 4.3.3. I will see when I can get a chance to reproduce the problem on a non-production system. Fixing it became quite the emergency so I can't really go break it hours after tracking down what was happening - I will get in trouble :( I will make sure to reproduce as much of that system as possible hopefully - Redhat 7.3 - same version of glibc/gcc - same CFLAGS - same configure options - same kernel version - etc. Now I just need spare hardware :) Too bad it didn't just dump core somewhere - I guess that would not be useful though since I did not compile PHP --with-debug. I think there might be some firewall I have to throw together around here soon, might be able to compile it on that - I just don't have any Redhat 7.3 systems that are development servers. The segfaulting only started happening in 4.3.3 and does currently affect 4.3.4RC1. Again - I am only posting this to help others who might be affected by this. I am NOT flaming the nice author of Net_SMTP in anyway. It should obviously not be segfaulting - error in PHP. Furthermore, I realize that my comment this out fix is hardly a fix at all - just trying to help anyone else affected by this.
The nice author of Net_SMTP (me) would like to see a backtrace of the crash (http://bugs.php.net/bugs-generating-backtrace.php). I'll try and reproduce this problem soon (I don't have 4.3.4RC1 built anywhere at the moment).
