Hi,
I have gotten back to DB_Schema development.
This build on Wolframs DB_Structure idea and maybe the following code
will become DB_Structure in the end. Of course this code hasn't been
tested at all yet and is just the result of two short hacking sessions.
http://backendmedia.com/DB_Schema/Objects.phps
Explanation:
Basically the idea is that there will be readers and writers.
Readers will build up an object tree of database objects and writers
will serialize an object tree.
Readers can get their data from any sort of source:
Database server, sql file, xml file (in various formats), proprietary
formats etc.
Writers in turn can serialize to all of the above sources.
Database objects are databases, tables, fields, indexes, sequences etc.
For each database object there will be a class that knows what objects
are allowed to be nested within. How to compare itself with another
instance etc.
Therefore DB_Schema will consists of:
Various reader classes
Various writer classes
Various database object classes
And a core class that ties the reader and writer together
People can customize the reader, writer and database object classes.
In conjunction with the extensibility of MDB 2.x in regards to the
datatype and manager method this means that you have a very powerful
framework in which you can manage your schemas.
regards,
Lukas Smith
