Hi all,
I've just finished unit-testing a side project I've been working on for a while that does several neat things. It's designed ONLY for abstract representation of a chessboard, no display through html or other means. However, it does provide a handy toArray() method to output the current board state.
It's a complete chess game playing/validation system that understands FEN for representing a position, as well as standard algebraic notation like Nag3 and exf8=Q, and so can be used as a backend for a multi-player chess website. It does not contain a chess engine that can play as if it were a computer opponent. I might write a package in the future that can interface with the xboard protocol so that an engine like Crafty could be hooked up to it. I have a partially completed package that reads in PGN-format chess game files, and it will use Structures_ChessGame to validate the PGN, but the primary purpose of Structures_ChessGame will be to provide a virtual chessboard for playing.
So, what do you all think of the name? I'd like to search/replace the source before proposing the package, if someone has a better idea for a name (Games_Chess comes to mind, not sure how that would fit into PEAR)
Regards,
Greg
