Hello, as the subject say I have problems installing PEAR. First some infos about my box : Mandrake 9.1 Apache 1.3.28 PHP 4.3.3 I used the Go-Pear installation script with this id: $Id: go-pear,v 1.52 2003/09/25 07:01:01 pajoye Exp $ AFAIK it is the last one. I executed these commands : # mkdir pear # chown -R apache pear # chgrp -R apache pear I saved the script and browsed it using FireBird 0.6. I left the default parameters as is and started the installation. I got an error message preventing the installation to start. It was requiring the php.exe path which is supposed to be optional as it is written next to it. Once I gave the path to the php.exe, the installation went fine. Unfortunatly there are other problems : - The package installed are not in the last stable version but in the last version even alpha. This is not a good idea IMHO since, for example, PHPUnit last alpha requires PHP5 and most of us uses PEAR with PHP4 until PHP5 is officially released. - I got these errors in the source code of the page after installing : Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /data/outils/pear/go-pear.php on line 247 Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /data/outils/pear/go-pear.php on line 268 - The link "Start Web Frontend of the PEAR Installer >>" provided at the bottom of the page after installation is wrong. It leads to "/index.php" instead of "index.php". Then I tried to use the newly installed Web Front End : - Sometimes when running the Web Front End, I got these errors : Notice: Undefined variable: proxy_host in /data/outils/pear/PEAR/PEAR/Remote.php on line 237 Notice: Undefined variable: proxy_host in /data/outils/pear/PEAR/PEAR/Remote.php on line 250 - The configuration page of the Web Front End incorrectly display the PEAR documentation directory, PEAR Installer cache directory, PEAR data directory and PEAR test directory. What is strange is that the good values are in the file pear.conf. Isn't it the file that is used to save PEAR configuration ? - If I try to change the preferred state to alpha or beta, the Web Front End package management does not work anymore. I got many "faultString" and "faultCode" instead of the packages names. If I turn the preferred state back to stable, the problem disappear. BTW changing the wrong paths for the correct ones do not solve this problem. - I installed PEAR a few times before using previous installers and I never got these problems. I would like to use one of them but they are not available or at least I do not know how to get them. BTW there is a long lasting typo in the left menu: Complete installtion I hope the bug report can help you to improve the installer. In fact I am wondering if I am the only one that faced these problems because I have seen nothing in the newsgroups regarding this issues. I am willing to provide my help as much as I can to fix them, especially by testing any fix that could be done. Best regards Jean-Marc
Oops I have just seen that someone else reported some of the bugs I reported here. Sorry for the redundant report but maybe more infos will help you more ;-)
