Hi Tobi,
just a short sidenote: I would like to draw your attention to the
"SMS Server Tools", written by Stefan Frings. He's also living here
in Germany (Düsseldorf), working for Vodafone and has invested much
time in interfacing mobile phones properly (I guess mainly via serial
lines) to a professional grade SMS server. He's quite friendly and
helpful - so you might wish to take a look at his work and if
problems / questions arise you could surely also contact him I guess.
You find his "SMS Server Tools" at:
http://www.isis.de/~s.frings/smstools_index.html
This way you could even integrate a smal-scale layer for directly
encoding an SMS with PHP etc. without the need for Gammu. As always,
maybe a factory-method could be used to let the user choose if he
wants to use Gammu (with extended features) or just send one plain
SMS via your direct implementation.
You also find additional information on AT-commands, encodings etc.
at: www.nobbi.com (sorry, German-only)
Cheers,
Stefan
