Hi,
ok you have showed your dedication to the cause :-)
Also it seems you were right that the author is unable to provide the
necessary support (atm).
Generally I would like to propose the following course of action.
Lorenzo takes over lead for now and you feed him your patches. This will
give us (Lorenzo and the rest of PEAR) a basis to getting to know you a bit
better. Once Lorenzo gets sick and tired of applying your skilfully crafted
patches he can suggest that you get your own CVS account.
Let me explain a bit more why I suggest this course of action. PEAR claims
to have high quality (which we strive to achieve atleast .. and which we are
definitely improving day by day) so we like to ensure that new developers
have the necessary know how. This know not only encompasses programming or
PHP skills to be more specific, but also good knowledge of PEAR its CS and
framework. Usually new developers go through the proposal phase which lets
them show off them code they have written. If there are still problems in
the CS compliance etc then the new developer will be pointed to these issues
by other developers. So hopefully by the time the proposal is accepted the
developer should be pretty well-versed in the PEAR CS and framework. Since
in this case we already have an existing package I guess the best course if
action is that you first have an experienced developer to examine your
patches before they get commited.
I hope you don't feel too bad about this. Its not that I don't trust your
skills as a programmer. Its more about giving you some time to get to know
the PEAR development world.
Btw: just to clarify I am not the only person that decides the opening of a
PEAR account. I was just the one that handled your request as I am one of
the members of the PEAR Group (there are 7 others).
Regards,
Lukas
