If you stick to integer and text datatypes you should be fine with DB. Otherwise you really want to have a look at MDB as it has datatype abstraction for timestamps, lobs etc. Also it can even keep your schema abstract from the RDBMS. Finally MDB 1.x has a faster "core" than PEAR DB which offsets some of the performance penalty the optional datatype handling creates.
Hmm - seems I should also have a look. But since most PEAR packages rely on DB instead of MDB: Can I use an existing DB-connection to e.g. mysql or whatever and use it with the MDB-features? Or does MDB need a separate connection for that?Well several database ext (like mysql) automatically reuse the same connection if you pass the same parameters. There is a DB wrapper in MDB, which for basic query/fetchInto is still as fast as DB. Some packages have been ported to MDB but certainly not all however. regards, Lukas
