In a nutshell,
Net_IMAP uses sockets and does all the IMAP talking itself.
Mail_IMAP uses the c-functions for IMAP buit into php, which makes it way
faster.
It also has a lot more options for parsing and fetching details about a
single message then Net_IMAP would.
The pepr link contains a link to the phps, scroll trough it the code is
quite well documented.
You may also wish to review the conversation about this that's bene going on
on pear-dev for some time :)
