Firstly, I apologize that I haven't responded to some messages on this
topic, I just discovered that I haven't been getting all the messages in the
thread through a look at the PEAR-DEV archive.

It is a bit, but the syntax depends on the server, I suppose, I have only
been able to test with my POP3 server, and if you look at the docs for
imap_open, you'll see a number of ways that argument can be passed. I
started to break down that argument by protocol, including extra arguments
to differentiate between anomalies, but then I realized that I only have my
server to test on! I'm open to suggestions for improving that.

Ok. I can do that.
I will continue to research methods of simplifying the code... hopefully at
this point I have a solid API, and I can now focus on improving efficiency.
