The TextRunner is a SAPI/CLI-based PHPUnit frontend for the commandline
but PHPUnit is not limited to commandline usage.
You can write your own testing environment based upon the PHPUnit
framework or wait for the PHPUnit_GtkUI and PHPUnit_WebUI frontends.
