We would however like to make MDB_DataObject more tailored to MDB to make use of it's more relevant features such as type abstraction
I'd be very carefull with this, the ability to actually move code from one database to another is less important that a single API for all databases (less to learn). some of the datatype abstraction in MDB (last time I looked) was very damaging, and counter intuative.
Can you elaborate on this? Actually MDB2 is exactly about providing the same API on all RDBMS. ALso in MDB2 I tried to make the abstraction more flexible. More specifically I made the datatype handling a separate module. So essentially either the users themselves or we could provide less "restrictive" (in the same of requiring specific RDBMS column types) datatype backend if the user just wants compatibility for a subset of the supported RDBMS. Other stuff like being able to use auto increment without sequence emulation have also been added. regards, Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07
