Hi,
Do you think it would be worth posting to internals@ to have the function implemented in C? I thought about this, too and I'll send a patch to internals next week. But there will be no feature additions before 5.0.0 stable has been released. So it would be nice to have this in PHP_Compat before it appears in PHP itself.
