This means that PHP4 packages will work in PHP5 and developers will use PEAR_ErrorStack which will have the agreggate of exceptions and PEAR_Error's. This does NOT mean that PHP 5 packages will work in PHP 4.Hello Davey, PHP 4 packages are already working in PHP5. I really think that there is too much concern on PHP 5 packages. I agree that a way to port on the fly PHP 4 packages to PHP 5 would be great (specially if PEAR_ErrorStack could be used on both 4 and 5) but I don't think it is something achievable. Many of the PHP 4 packages will not rush into porting to PHP 5 E_STRICT using PHP 5 only syntax and for quite a while they will stay as they are: PHP 4 packages working under PHP 5 non E_STRICT (which is the case for DB, Mail and many others).
