Hi, and thanks for your vote :-) Davey Shafik wrote:
I like this package, I just wonder if XML_Index or XML_Indexer are more appropriate names? Probably the second, seeing as something that performs indexing is an indexer, no?
Well, at first I called it XML_Indexer and you had to issue a require_once 'XML/Indexer.php'. But, that's wrong. The basic usage is based on the transparent reader, something that could be called 'IndexedReader'. And some people who want fine grained indexing may use the index builder directly. Additionally, I've been thinking about different transparent interfaces, for example to provide both read and write access to files. These would be use instead of the Reader. So, I decided to remove the XML/Indexer.php file, and (as Benchmark does) to provide somehow specialized classes inside XML/Indexing/ Names like XML_Indexing_Reader, and XML_Indexing_Builder make much sense, I think. And 'Indexing' is very clear about what it does. 'Index' could be ok though, but Indexer is too restrictive : the realm of the package is not only to create indexes (that's the Builder role), but to "assists you in creating and using such indexes". -- og
