Thanks a lot for your answer!
But I don't understand if it is possible or if it is not possible to generate UTF8 XLS-Files with the PEAR-class....
So I see, that I can change the codepage with:
$xls->_codepage=1250;
$xls->setVersion(8);
But can I use codepage='65001' (this is the utf8-codepage) or not?
I don't succeeded with this :(
In the bugreport I found this:
"Excel 97/2000 is using UTF-16LE encoding. Try changing multibyte internal enciding to UTF-16LE, and using iconv to convert to UTF016LE. So that should change to mb_strlen such as writeStringBIFF8() from worksheet class. I can export Excel2000 file in Chinese characters and readable from any language of Windows OS."
I don't understand the comment? Using iconv to convert to UTF-16LE is clear. But why should i change "multibyte internal encoding"? I don't find any mb-funciton inside the Spreadsheet-Classes :(

Jan

I don't find anything about this in the documentation, but the bugreport http://pear.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=2159 tells something about UTF8. If I write for example "Tomáš" in a cell the 'output' is "Tomáš". I open the generated xls-File with OpenOffice 1.1.4 - is there actually a difference to Excel which could be the problem? Is there a possibility to set the character or something else? What is the sense of the following codelines (see section "Reproduce code" on http://pear.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=2159) $workbook->_codepage = '65001'; $workbook->SetVersion(8); Regards JanHi Jan, please take a look at this post: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=pear-general&m=110237970300267&w=2 Best regards, Torsten Roehr
