Hi Greg "Memory Monster" :) If you can remember, I was among the first to tell you memory could ne a problem with your new pear. I should have shut my mouth again :( One thing was perhaps never pointed out: pear operations *do not* belong to production. So it *is* acceptable to go over these poor 8M imposed by PHP. The installer who is unable to raise the limit is a poor guy or the host is absolutely miserable. You are evil with lot of people who really want your stuff and *do* participate, even if it's only tests or checks.
I have heard absolutely nothing from any developers who wish to apply their energies to writing any code for the installer. Many have offered, but none have any real interest in doing work. You do know how it's difficult to share projects in such a edge development. You sustain the castle with all your fingers, head and members, it's still your baby and some time is necessary for people to understand all the schemes you've put in it.
I wanted a very short message (missed ;) to tell you what I have done: I finished hardly some handler which encapsulate every call to every function to catch the resources usage. pear is an excellent test with a lot of features :) http://toggg.com/pear/memory.html You have 5 sheets for 1. pearM upgrade XML_RPC-1.2.1.tgz 2. pearM list-upgrades 3. pear list 4. pear list-all 5. pear upgrade -f rumpear.tgz These 5 tables give the memory usage pro classes (left column) detailled pro functions to the right. It's the cumul of memory differences before and after each run of each function of the classes. The values are issued just before leaving the script. some point in middle could be of interest ? I'm not sure at all it's accurate, what do you mean, roughly ? I don't understand why pear list needs so much. Unfortunately, I got some: XML-RPC Server Fault: no signature found for package.getDownloadURL() Cannot initialize 'channel://pear.php.net/xml_xpath', invalid or missing package file So I could not bench with download. Dunno what's wrong. Pearly yours, -- bertrand Gugger htttp://toggg.com/
