Just in case it wasn't obvious from my last reply to Lukas, subpackage support is 100% in package.xml 2.0. Combining the default install group, recommended dependency version, and the <compatible> tag is a great way to make sure that driver packages are easy to install/upgrade for the average user, and that the solution available to us PEAR devs is much more powerful, secure, and flexible than the original subpackages idea.
