The RFC 2445 (iCal) specification is a powerful format for internet calendaring and scheduling. Almost every popular calendar application can import and/or export iCal files. iCal is an emerging necessity. For this reason, I propose File::iCal. This package will feature complete support for the RFC 2445 specification. It will be able to read iCal files, extract all the objects stored within, export these to a generic calendar object (Date::Calendar for example) as well as be able to write new iCal files and modify existing ones. Currently, I have the foundation for the reading part of the process about 60% complete. Source code can be found at http://zorro.case.edu/viewcvs/php_classes/File_iCal/. The current implementation stores all file data in PHP classes which mimic the behavior of the types defined by RFC 2445.
If possible (I haven't looked at your code and won't have time for a little while), it would be great if there was a very simple way to interface between your iCal code and the pre-existing PEAR Calendar class (http://pear.php.net/Calendar). This would be extremely attractive to me and to others. Once interfacing the APIs is worked out, this would simplify any future work on your part, as you would only need to concentrate on converting iCal to whatever PEAR's Calendar class needs, and not on implementing a calendar. Hope this is useful :) Greg
