+1 for #3
However, if it really is too much work,I'd go for #1, too. But given our
stance on BC, I don't think it's *that* great an idea. On the other
hand, package.xml 2.0 is still in alpha status, but is being used in
stable releases. That's not such a brilliant idea imho, but what's done
is done. So let's adopt #3. If that means we can't release 1.4 till
Christmas, so be it.
Btw, I just realized how much I miss the old pear-dev votes ;)
