Yeah, I was fearing I would come to the same conclusion :(
Obviously there are great differences in relational DB's compared to
hirarchical DB's which probably can't be hidden very easily.
I guess trying to make them as compatible as possible is the best bet.
One other thing though. I guess I am not the first to think about
something like this and I do not think its very easy to do as a general
tool but:
Maybe for the specialized tasks where people would use LDAP maybe a
query builder would be a good solution.
That is I pass the query builder a bunch of parameters and it either
builds an SQL query or an LDAP query. A general query builder is quite
hard to do but maybe with such a "limited" scope it because more
feasible (or better doable).
